Ontario Courthouse Wayfinding & Signage Standard
Year:
2012
Office:

In Ontario the Ministry of the Attorney General spearheaded an initiative to increase access to the province’s justice system. Cygnus was brought on to develop a province-wide performance standard for wayfinding and signage, which included compliance with Ontario’s impending accessibility legislation (AODA). The signage standard was developed as a compliment to the new architectural standard and aimed to improve the function and efficiency of courthouse environments. Our team worked collaboratively with several key stakeholder groups including the departments within the Attorney General’s office, the Justice Department, facility management groups, and both Judiciary branches. Beyond this project, Cygnus was engaged to design and manage the roll out of wayfinding programs based on the standards for two pilot locations in Barrie and Thunder Bay.
