The Calgary Board of Education undertook an initiative to restore the historic Safran School, attach new multi-use conference facilities and build a 10-story tower to house their administrative offices. Cygnus worked closely with the design architect Gibbs Gage and CBE stakeholders to design a unified wayfinding program for the site including the underground parkade. Our process began with a detailed assessment of the needs of staff and first time visitors. As part of the solution, our team developed an interactive touchscreen kiosk that provides directory and wayfinding information as well as information about the building’s LEED features. In total, the project’s scope included assessment, schematic and conceptual design, design development and managed implementation. The program successfully unifies the process of wayfinding throughout three characteristically different buildings with respect to their use, function and architectural styles.
