Cygnus was selected as the Wayfinding Consulting Firm to develop a master plan for the Alberta Legislature District and the Edmonton Federal Building. Cygnus’ project team began with a series of workshops with key stakeholder groups. They undertook an in-depth research process to uncover and understand the rich history of the place, resulting in proposed nomenclature that built on the legacy of the Capital District. The process revealed the need for a district identity to assist with the effective communication of wayfinding, which Cygnus designed to be compatible with the overarching Province of Alberta Brand. Cygnus established a five-zone district that aligns with the geography and function of spaces with a goal to capitalize on the present use of space as well as future development. Cygnus has developed a wayfinding master plan which creates meaning and a sense of place that goes beyond that of a typical wayfinding program.
