Gordon Milne is the President and CEO of Cygnus and has more than thirty years of experience in the wayfinding and signage industry. Under his leadership Cygnus has grown into a thriving design practice with a balanced focus on both business strategy and design. Through a pioneering approach and innovative vision Gordon has championed a process that focuses on the predictability of quality outcomes and the long term sustainability of a program. Fortunate to have lived and worked in Montreal, Toronto and Calgary, Gordon now resides in Vancouver/Victoria and works from the Vancouver studio.
Originally from Vancouver Island, Danielle Bauer is a dynamic communicator who is passionate about technology, sustainable design, art and architecture. She is fascinated with the ways that design—in all its forms—can impact the human experience. Danielle joined Cygnus in 2008 and serves as Communications Director. She is responsible for strategic communications, marketing initiatives, knowledge programs, employee engagement and company culture. She is also responsible for special programs that develop strong relationships with clients, partners and the community. Danielle is a member of the Urban Land Institute of BC and SEGD. She is an avid runner and hobbyist photographer.
Originally from Ireland, Chris studied Graphic Design at Fanshawe College. He joined Cygnus in 2007 as a Graphics Co-ordinator transitioning to Information Designer in 2010. In that time, he has also obtained a diploma in Web Development and Multimedia from Ryerson University. He has been involved in projects for The Calgary Board of Education, Baycrest Hospital, and Toronto Rehab, among others. Chris also holds a college diploma in Journalism and possesses a varied background in photography.
Katherine Deheer obtained her degree in Business Administration from Concordia University in Montreal in 1989. She worked with KLM—The Royal Dutch Airlines—in both Montreal and New York as Account Specialist, Office Manager and then Assistant to the Controller. In 1997 she moved to Calgary with her husband and shortly thereafter joined the Cygnus team as Financial Controller. Katherine is multilingual, speaking fluent English, French and Dutch.
Luis Sanchez was born in Venezuela and moved to Edmonton at the age of 18. He studied Computing Science at the University of Alberta, where he earned a Bachelor’s degree. Before joining Cygnus Group in 2011, Luis worked for Gravit-e Technologies in Vancouver, and Getty Images in Calgary. During his 7 years of work experience he has built automation tools, medical assessment systems, e-commerce and social networking sites. Luis has learned the importance of integrating design and cutting-edge interfaces into his programming practices; skills he has applied to all his work at Cygnus Group. His true passion revolves around anything that is user-centred. Luis is in ‘IT heaven’ when he is working on projects that involve building interactive applications. He is trilingual in English, French and Spanish. Luis also enjoys outdoor activities such as jogging and hiking, and is always looking forward to his next big adventure.
As a senior designer with Cygnus with over 16 years of experience, Lindsay has worked with some of Canada’s leading public and private institutions, designing and directing the implementation of wayfinding and environmental graphics programs. His experience has led him to the position that adaptability, affordability and sustainability of systems need to be considered as acutely as the aesthetics and content during the design process. Lindsay is particularly interested in how dynamic content and new technology can be used to help people understand and interact with their surroundings. As such, he has led Cygnus’ recent initiatives related to digital signage, interactive applications and mobile computing. Lindsay is a graduate of the University of Calgary’s Faculty of Fine Art and a member of the Society of Environmental Graphic Designers. His clients include the Banff Centre, Alberta Health Services, University of Calgary, University of Alberta, MacEwan University, Ryerson University, Trillium Health Centre and Telus.
